Level development overview
Retro Carnage makes it very easy to edit existing levels or create new ones, which is great for those who like to experiment with different game designs. The Retro Carnage Editor is our own software, designed specifically for this purpose. This level editor is easy to pick up. Level elements can be added, removed, and rearranged at any time using drag-and-drop. This makes level design as easy as moving files. Like the Retro Carnage game itself, the Retro Carnage Editor is free and available for all popular platforms.
The Retro Carnage Editor
You can find the Retro Carnage Editor on the download page. The editor is written in the Java programming language. Therefore, the software depends on a current Java Runtime Environment (JRE), which must be installed beforehand. Once this is done, it is simply a matter of downloading the Retro Carnage Editor from the download page and unpacking it locally. The download archive contains everything you need:
- A wide selection of prepared graphic assets and background music is available. Much of this content is not even used in the game.
- Existing levels that can be used as examples or as a basis for your own creations.
The installation process is described step by step in the installation guide.
